The expanding range of global competition, coupled with the growing volumes of complex data in companies after having spent the last decade implementing Enterprise Resource Planning, have forced businesses and academics alike to turn to sophisticated technologies for solutions. Business Intelligence plays ever-increasingly important roles in companies to obtain the competitive advantages. The marriage between the cutting-edge business intelligence technology and traditional topics of finance and economics has resulted in the field of Financial Engineering. Accordingly, financial engineering as a cross-disciplinary field relies on mathematical finance, intelligent methods and computer simulations to make trading, hedging and investment decisions, as well as facilitating the risk management of those decisions, and thus strengthening the competitive capability of companies.
The main purposes of the International Conference on business intelligence and financial engineering (BIFE’2008) are to exchange information and ideas on business intelligence and financial engineering, to promote a higher academic level of business intelligence and financial engineering, and meantime to provide an international forum for experts from academia in the field of business intelligence and financial engineering from universities throughout the world, as well as business practitioners and senior management from industry can discuss current focus problems, new modeling approaches and future alternative solutions.

Changsha

     Changsha, the famous city in the Chu and the Han with a history of over 3000 years, is the provincial capital of Hunan. It is the political, economic and cultural centre in Hunan as well as the backing centre to develop Dongting Lake area of Yangtze River Development Zone in China.
     Changsha has jurisdiction over Furong, Tianxin, Yuelu, Kaifu and Yuhua districts, Changsha, Wangcheng and Ningxiang counties and Liuyang city. The total area is 1,800 square kms including 554 square kms of city proper are. The total population stood at 5,720,000 of whom 1,640,000 were not connected with agriculture。
      It is located in the beautiful and richly endowed river-valley plain in the central part of Hunan Province, bordering on Luoxiao Mountain on the east, Wuling Mountain on the west, adjaining Dongting Lake on the north and boundered on the south by Hengshan Mountain. It has a moist monsoon climate of the subtropical zone. The average annual air temperature is 17.2℃and the rainfall 1361 mm. The frostiness period lasts 275 days and the yearly duration of sunshane amounts to 1600 hours.
     Changsha, with a long history, rich natural resources, scenic beauty and outstanding personalities, is a famous place investing and initiating enterprises, engaging in business, thuring and spending holidays.
